The Promise of Learner Agency using the UDL Lens
What should we promise our learners as they enter school each day? Agency! In this hands-on interactive session, participants will use the UDL (Universal Design for Learning) Lens in a 3-step process to help a learner they know and a learner they do not know to develop agency:
- First, the Learner Profile (LP) to discover the learner and how they learn;
- Second, develop a Personal Learning Backpack (PLB) of skills and tools to support the learner’s needs; and
- Third, create a Personal Learning Plan (PLP) designed with learning goals and action steps for the learner to develop a path to agency.

Personalization and Universal Design for Learning: Realizing the Promise of Learner Agency
What do we promise our learners as they enter the schoolhouse door each day? As we try to educate all children to become independent and self-directed learners so they have choices in college, career, and life, our promise must be for each child to develop learner agency. But how can we fulfill that promise and prepare current and future teachers to create learner-centered environments where all children develop agency? Discover how Personalization and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) can be the centerpieces to fulfill that promise.
