Richard Brown, Ph.D.
Professor at University of Rhode Island
Richard Brown received his Bachelors and Doctorate in the UK before accepting a position as a post doctoral researcher at the University of Delaware. He was then appointed to a faculty position in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Rhode Island, where he is currently the Department Chair. His research area is degradation of materials in the marine environment and he currently directs the URI’s Corrosion and Surfaces Laboratory, which investigates degradation of materials and methods to mitigate degradation of materials, such as coatings. His interests include mechanisms of corrosion, corrosion assisted fatigue, hydrogen embrittlement, alternates to chromates, adhesive bonding, residual properties after explosions, bio composites and failure analysis.
