Hilary Levey Friedman, Ph.D.
Visiting Assistant Professor at Brown University
Prof. Hilary Levey Friedman is a sociologist who teaches courses on afterschool activities, beauty pageants, and sports at Brown University. She holds degrees from Harvard University, Princeton University, and the University of Cambridge.
Her first book, Playing to Win: Raising Children in a Competitive Culture, follows families with elementary school-age children involved in chess, dance, and soccer. She is working on her second book about beauty pageants and the American woman. She is a frequent book reviewer as well.
Prof. Levey Friedman is the Chair of the East Greenwich Democratic Town Committee. She also serves as a Commissioner on the East Greenwich Affordable Housing Commission and on the Public Policy Committee of the United Way of Rhode Island.
